Who is your Maestro? Once you tell people you have begun building a house in Mexico, the next step is to interview for a project manager, or Maestro. There are other important jobs, too, but none so as the Maestro.

I will say, that since Covid, there have been many new families and couples that decided to just stay on vaca and buy land, while also opting for the DIY version. It has its merits, and can be deeply satisfying, but honestly, my dad is the last Da Vinci I know and he adamantly insists he is retired; I don’t have the skills or the patience for a DIY and my husband and I both feel better knowing the house won’t fall down.

We decided to manage the project with the help of a Maestro. The man who chose us deserves a little back story. A retired Maestro from Italy, he drives around most days managing his Kombucha business on the back of his four-wheeler and helping old ladies fix things in their homes… for free.

He explained that he wanted to take on the project pro bono as a pay it forward exercise. He wants to share his knowledge with us and share his connections so that we will then share with others, thereby making a gifting economy that helps to foster his dream world. Blown away, we felt this sentiment resonated with our overall project and knew we were up to the task.
